Regularly trim trees and bushes to keep them away from your house. This not only minimizes the risk of physical damage to your home during storms but also removes the “bridges” pests used to enter. Ensure there’s at least a foot of space between your home’s walls and any vegetation. This space is crucial not only for pest control but also for air circulation which helps keep walls dry and less attractive to pests.
Additionally, keep your yard tidy by removing fallen leaves and debris that can harbor pests. Consider choosing plant species that are native to Fort Myers as they are less likely to attract non-native pests and often require less water and maintenance, further reducing pest problems.
